About SageMarie

I found myself in need of a winter hat when I moved from searing Tucson, Arizona to wintery Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I put it off my first winter because it seemed like my only option was a boring beanie. Ugh. So basic.

The next summer whilst pursuing summer hats online that wouldn’t make me look like Jason Mraz, My Fair Lady, nor my favorite Seattler Mariner, Ichiro, I found a woolen beret on sale. Now here was a winter hat with character! True, only one ear would be warm at a time but that was a price I was willing to pay to look amazing. SOLD! Soon autumn arrived and it was time to pull my beautiful beret from its summer hibernation. I adorned my noggin and bam! I was a whole new woman!

As I shopped for new salad tongs in my new hat a man stopped me to ask, “yo, are you an artist?” I replied with, “yes, I am!”. Then to continue being an honorable person, I was compelled at that moment to take up painting!

And that is how I became an artist.

Or maybe I spent my former years drawing and painting people but got distracted by motherhood until in this moment when feelings came up of how I deeply yearned for a creative outlet. Either way, it rekindled my love of depicting the beauty in everyone so I bought some nice watercolor paints and painted this portrait of my son. It was so enjoyable that I've been painting portraits since.
